Melting Shapes
Fall 2017

installation with an interactive performance
Aluminium foil, paint, concrete, metal, stone, fabric and wood post

 60” X 80” X 80"

After visiting a construction site, I realized how many items discarded there could be repurposed into something beautiful. I decided to use color to attract spectators and get them involved in the art installation by having them paint a square. A simple shape has a dramatic affect emotional when paired with specific colors. Using this idea, while the participants painted, I was able to speak with them to prove a point of how important recycling is to our planet. I used aluminum foil to make face imprints; I was able to show them that even used aluminum foil can turn into something beautiful. Keeping their attention on the recycling, I burnt it down into ashes, returning to the soil. Materials that did not burn will find a new home at a recycling center.
